Thursday morning saw the beginning of another surge in Dow Jones futures, with the widely watched index gaining ground as investors processed the Labor Department’s initial round of jobless claims data. Disney (DIS), a Dow component, led the blue-chip group and surged on solid earnings results. Fed Chair Jerome Powell is scheduled to talk at 2:00 PM ET after that.

The number of first-time jobless claims did not change from the previous week, at 217,000. 220,000 were predicted to climb.

Powell, the head of the Fed, will talk later today in Washington, D.C. at the IMF Annual Research Conference. Powell is a member of the policy panel that will talk about the difficulties facing monetary policy in the world economy.

Disney increased its aggressive cost-reduction goals and exceeded earnings projections late on Wednesday. With some factors excluded, the Dow Jones media behemoth posted adjusted earnings of 82 cents per share, up 173% from 30 cents per share the previous year. The revenue amounted to $21.24 billion, up 5%. DIS’s stock surged 4% ahead of the market.

ARM (ARM), Duolingo (DUOL), HubSpot (HUBS), Instacart (CART), Li Auto (LI), Lyft (LYFT), TransDigm (TDG), Twilio (TWLO), and Yeti (YETI) were among the major earnings mover early on Thursday.

Premarket trading saw ARM stock fall 6% while Duolingo shares surge 11%. Shares of HubSpot surged 3.9%, while those of CART fell by about 2%. Li Auto shares surged 1.3% in early trading, while LYFT stock fell 3.5%.

In morning trading, TransDigm shares increased 1.7% while TWLO stock surged 5.7%. Finally, early trading saw an almost 3% decline in YETI stock.

Dow Jones futures increased 0.3% compared to fair value ahead of Thursday’s opening bell, while S&P 500 futures saw a 0.25% increase. In early trading, tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 futures increased by 0.1%.

The SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY) rose 0.25% early on Thursday, while the Nasdaq 100 tracker Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) edged higher among U.S. exchange traded funds.

The 10-year U.S. Treasury bond’s yield increased slightly to 4.54%. The benchmark reached its lowest closing point since late September on Wednesday, ending at 4.52%.

The price of oil has somewhat recovered from its recent decline, with West Texas Intermediate futures up 0.7% and remaining below $76 a barrel. WTI is down from where it was in late July.

The S&P 500 continued its rise to eight days on Wednesday, gaining 0.1%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended a seven-session winning run and dropped 0.1%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq gained for the ninth straight day, edging higher.

“With indexes moderating their big advances, conditions are ripe for a descent,” wrote Wednesday’s strong Picture column. Potential thresholds of resistance are being tested via indexes. The index’s July 19 peak highs are touched by a trend line that connects the Nasdaq to its mid-October highs.

The top stocks to monitor in the current market rise are IBD Leaderboard stocks Amazon (AMZN), DraftKings (DKNG), MercadoLibre (MELI), and Uber Technologies (UBER), as well as Dow Jones companies Intel (INTC), Walmart (WMT), and UnitedHealth (UNH).

According to an IBD MarketSmith chart analysis, chip giant Intel is in a buy range past a 37.22 buy mark in a double-bottom base. Wednesday’s 2.2% decline in Intel stock kept it above the most recent entry. Early on Thursday, INTC dropped 0.1%.

Walmart, the retail behemoth on the Dow Jones, lost its 165.85 buy target during the 0.8% decline on Wednesday. Thursday morning saw a slight increase in WMT stock.

The huge consolidation that the health care company UnitedHealth is adding a handle to is displaying a new purchase point at 546.78. The UNH stock increased 0.2% on Thursday.

Amazon’s stock surpassed an early entry at 134.48 last week, marking a positive return over its 50-day line. The 145.86 buy mark of a cup base is currently within striking distance of AMZN shares. Stocks rose 0.1% on Thursday.

Last week, DraftKings broke over the 50-day line and breezed past two entries in the process: a trendline derived from the peak on August 4 with a substitute entry at 31.10 and a 32.65 entry. The DKNG stock increased by 0.3% on Wednesday, moving over the 34.49 buy mark of a consolidation. In the early hours of Thursday, shares fell more than 1%.

IBD MarketSmith pattern identification indicates that MercadoLibre had a strong rally last week, climbing up the right side of a cup base with a 1,451.56 buy point. Shares are almost ready to upgrade their cup base with a handle. Thursday morning saw a 0.3% increase in MELI shares.

Despite Wednesday’s 0.8% decline, Uber is still above a buy trigger at 49.19, a double-bottom entry. Uber’s shares increased slightly on Thursday morning.

Tesla, one of the so-called “Magnificent Seven” companies, fell 1% in early trading on Thursday, while Nvidia (NVDA) and Meta Platforms (META) increased by 0.8% and 0.1%, respectively. Ahead of today’s stock market opening, Dow Jones tech giants Microsoft (MSFT) and Apple (AAPL) saw a modest decline in trading.

After a recent unsuccessful breakthrough, Meta stock recovered its 50-day line last week and is still attempting to make a new entrance.

Giant graphics chip maker Nvidia increased its gains to 1.35% on Wednesday, extending its winning run to six sessions. The NVDA stock is developing a double bottom with an entry at 476.09.

Wednesday saw a slight decline in Tesla stock as it continues to struggle to reclaim the 200-day moving average. The stock has dropped almost 26% from its 52-week peak.

Of the Dow Jones equities included in the Magnificent Seven, Apple experienced a 0.6% increase on Wednesday, gaining an early position at 182.34. The shares are still following a consolidation with a buy point of 198.23. Apple’s stock dropped 0.3% on Thursday.

Wednesday saw Microsoft shares rise 0.7% more, capping a nine-session winning run. The official buy point of a cup base, 366.78, is being approached by shares, which are currently above an early buy trigger at 346.20. The MSFT stock fell somewhat on Thursday morning.
